Survival sex and trauma responses are often misunderstood, judged, and oversimplified.

But for many survivors, these behaviors are not about “bad choices.”
They are about survival. Protection. Coping. Staying alive.
🔹 Survival sex is often a response to unmet basic needs—food, shelter, safety.
🔹 Trauma responses are automatic reactions shaped by past abuse, fear, and survival instincts.
When we fail to understand this, we risk retraumatizing the very people we’re supposed to help.
As educators, advocates, service providers, and leaders, we must shift from:
❌ “Why did you do that?”
to
✅ “What happened to you—and how can I support you?”
Compassion changes outcomes.
Trauma-informed care saves lives.
Let’s do better. Together.
